Day and night in tuen mun

In this project, I have recorded street views and ambient sound by 360-video and ambisonic sound record. I captured 3 places in Tuen Mun and separated each of them into different time (day and night), which reveals human habit in different time, different atmosphere. Meanwhile, some people live in Kowloon does not know about tuen mun, and think that it is a countryside place, so by this project, I can show faces of tuen mun to othe.

As a local resident in Tuen Mun, I selected some places that tuen mun people go there usually but not well-known, so that others can understanding the living in tuen mun. I selected market, beach, and seaside promenadee, by visit to the place in different time, you can find out that there are different feelings.

The first place I visited is Leung King Market, this is a place with plenty housewife that go for ingredient of their dinner, sometimes they would like to chit-chat with other since they live in the same community. People flow through the entry in and out and made blooming atmosphere. Also, Tuen mun has its unique public transportation system- LRT, in the recording you may heard and there were railways sound in this place, there little place that railway is near to market except north point.

By the night, Leung King Market is a place for people buying their night snacks, the situation is not that crowded, the ambient is quitter, since most of human activities are occur in the daytime. I guess they were night-shift employees and just off duty that time, some of them just out taking their meal and leave, I can feel that the mood was exhausted. 

The second place I went to was Sam Shing seaside promenadee, the sea breeze was quite strong and blowing constantly, even I put on the windshield to zoom h3-vr recorder, it still affected the result of the record. In the daytime, no matter which age-group, they are fascinated to this place, with a beautiful view, breeze and boarder area, there are lots of activities I saw, cycling, photographing, wandering, peddling etc. It just like a carnival.

However, during the nighttime, it did not as same as the situation in Leung King Market, those people were still energetic, they were playing song with their mp3 player, drinking alcohol, riding bicycle. Under my observation, most of them are teenagers, some kind near to the line of gangster. Actually it make me stress since I can heard the sound of breaking glass.

And the third place is Ching shan wan beach, the physical condition is so similar to  Sam Shing seaside promenadee, but the wave sound is more clear. The time I recorded is in the sun set, the rhythm of the wave is more fierece than the night, maybe it is because of the tidal. Besides, it recorded on Sunday, some domestic helper would like to stay in beach for their holiday , they also like to play music and chat. 

By the night, the sea wave is calm, and people keep silence to listen to the sea just different from Sam Shing seaside promenadee. However, during the nighttime, the Dai Pai Dong nearby was in working hours, joy also recorded in the tracks. In the compare of these two-group people, I feel more sadness in the back of those person sitting alone on the beach.

Conclusion

Basically, time will affect human activities, most of human activities occur in the daytime; a flourish, crowded place has other faces in different time, environment can partly affect people emotions.
