NG Sin Wai Javis Semester-end Project
The place I choose to do the recording of the 360 video is Garden Hill in Sham Shui Po. The time is around 5 p.m. which is near the sunset period. The Ricoh TD-1 tripod was set close to the baluster. Zoom H3-VR Audio Recorder is used for recording Ambisonic audio, and Ricoh Theta Z1 is for 360 video.
I choose Garden Hill as the recording location because of its scenery and redevelopment project. Garden Hill is in Sham Shui Po and going uphill is just 15 minutes. It is a 300-foot-tall hill, and the way to walk uphill is a long staircase. On the way walking the staircase uphill, there is a Mei Ho Building at the beginning and thus, the layered from worn out buildings in Sham Shui Po to part of the Stoncutters’ Bridge at the front while Lion Rock and Shek Kip Mei are at the back. Just take less than a half hour, and a different perspective of Sham Shui Po is at the front. It is a place for people the hide in the concrete jungle.
The name Garden Hill is because the hill is near the headquarters of the Garden Company, known locally for its bakery products. The Garden Factory was constructed in 1959 and was initially rated a Grade 2 historic building. According to the redevelopment, the building is now reconstructing. In the future, the building will be a 25-storey commercial and office building. The new building of the Garden Factory may block the sight from Garden Hill. Therefore, this time is an excellent opportunity to capture the change with the 360 video plus Ambisonic recording.
In the Garden Hill 01 video, it is 5:25 p.m., about to be sunset. The sun gradually disappears in the high-rise building. The people around had already found their position to take photos, so there was primarily environmental sound like wind, bird, traffic light, and car horn sound. Compared to Garden Hill 02, it was only 5 p.m. People were still coming to Garden Hill and finding the best place to watch the sunset. Hence, more sound is recorded inside, like talking, walking, and taking their stuff. One of the fun facts in this time recording is the badminton player Ng Ka Long is next to my camera in Garden Hill 02. At 3:53, a woman walks to him and roots for him
